When making money with articles, you require to get the perfect keywords to make your niche web site* a success. However, many times it’s valuable to utilize paid keyword search tools. For this reason, a few new marketers may choose to try and find their keywords for free. One of the best ways to do this is to use the free Yahoo Search Marketing tools that you may get on their site.

First, go to the Yahoo site and select Search Marketing under Yahoo Advertising Solutions. Scroll down to and click on Sponsored Search. You’ll see a section that says “How many searches may your business get?” where you’ll type in the main keyword of your decided niche. This will bring up a list a of words that have your niche subject in them and tell you how many people looked for that particular word the previous month.

To get an idea of what the competition is like, take each word that had a substantial amount of searches and input it into the Yahoo search engine using parenthesis. This will give you a good idea of how many people search for a particular keyword and how many sites you’ll be in competition with for the top spots on the first two pages.

This will naturally take many more time than a paid software program and it may not give you all of the great ideas that a program might. On the other hand, it will be free and give you extra funds for other parts of your site.

If you may do this for free on your own, search engine optimise your web site on your own, and write your own content, then the only thing you’ll have to spend money on is a site URL and web hosting. This is a great idea for those who have little to no start up cash, many time on their hands, are quick learners, and can wait for the profits to start coming in (which will pretty much be pure profit).

However, if you would like to go the easy path and utilize a keyword generating software program, you may find many online. A few are more popular than others and have been a proven way for people to dig up valuable keywords for their niche sites.

Many webmasters try to use articles from free content directories to get visitors to their web site and make some profit. This is mostly important for those who have just started working as an associate for various companies and don’t yet have any funding, yet require to made small niche sites to visitors to their web site so that they may start making revenue.

Though this may sometimes be the only alternative for those who are running on a non-existent budget, it’s not a way that will effectively make your site or revenue. There are a some potential reasons why this possibly detrimental to your business building efforts.

Problem #1 – Search Engines

Search engines will only look down upon your web site if it’s the exact same duplicated content than other web site*. The more web site* that share your content, the less it will aid you achieve good search engine rankings.

Good search engine rankings are essential in getting visitors to your sit so that they’ve a chance to click on your associate links. If you can’t even get visitors, then will never make an revenue. Working on the search engine optimization of your web site so that you’ll eventually be high enough in the results to get customers, should be priority one.

Problem #2 – Getting visitors to click

Though getting your web site high on search engine result pages and acquiring web site visitors is hard work, unfortunately this is only half of the battle. You must also be able to convince those visitors to click on your associate links. If your visitors see the same content they’ve seen on a multitude of other web site*, they’ll be least likely to click on your links. This is as most people would like to purchase things that are recommended by people that they trust or whom they feel like are an expert on the subject.

If your content is just doubled from other web site*, you’ll be exposed as someone who doesn’t really know what they’re talking about and hence won’t look heavily on your product recommendations. This will reduce the number of site visitors who will be willing to click through.

Problem #3 – Author Bylines

Almost free content is only given to you if you agree to place the authors byline under the article (you may get into hassle if you try to use it without following the specified rules). This poses a trouble as most author bylines include links. When a reader gets done reading a actually intriguing article, there is a strong possibility that they’ll click on the author’s byline link instead of your associate links. This is the entire reason why these authors offer free content to begin with, so that they may get their name and links out there to the public. Using this type of content may mean shooting yourself in the foot and losing possible fruitful site visitors.

Once you put these three troubles together, you’re dealing a serious decline in revenue just because you used free site content from article directories. Though it possibly the only alternative for a few, if you’ve the funds to purchase your own original content, then you should go this path. If you do not have the finds, however, you may be better off writing your own content and then hiring professional services once you’ve made a profit to work with.

Determining the right freelance writer to create your revenue generating articles may take a little of time, however, if you get one that may easily take on another regular client and the two of you work well together, then that one hard look will turn into more fruitful articles.

When you begin your look, you may wish to start with a very small group of articles, just in case you happen too hook up with a writer that you’re less than thrilled with. It’s important to keep in mind that there are many different types of writing and each writer might be extremely skilled in one area, yet lack in another. E.g., There’s creative/fiction writing, biographical writing, news writing, general informational article writing, critical writing, copy-writing, poem/verse writing, technical writing, medical writing, essay/report writing, and sports writing. Though a writer possibly extremely skilled in one area, many freelance writers spread themselves out into others areas as well. So, it’s critical that the writer you select may produce the type of content that you require.

To get a freelance writer, you may look at several freelancing sites that will allow you to post the specification of your project and your budget.

From there, writers will make bids on your project and provide you with writing samples so that you may get an idea of their skill level. Be sure that you select a writer who gives you a sample of the type of article that you’re searching. For instance, if you’re searching a copy-writer, don’t hire someone who only sent you a sports writing sample. He or she possibly an outstanding sports writer, but copy-writing is about selling (a product, service, or yourself) to your website visitors.

In conclusion, the more you’re willing to pay per article, the more bids you’ll get from quality writers who know how to entertain and inform your internet site visitors so that they keep coming back for more. Writers know that you will eventually make a ton of money off of each article or content piece. So although $30 or more for a 500 word article may seem like a lot, when you think about the service they are providing you and the time and effort that they put into your piece, then you’ll realize that it really is not a lot for that one article. If you pay for quality, you’ll be amazed at how much you’ll eventually make off of your articles.

This article is part of a series by Jonathan Leger, the famous Internet Marketeer. In this part 3 of 5, Leger focuses on search engine ‘communication’.

He says:

“In parts one and two of this five part tutorial, I discussed how to select and analyze the keywords that you should try and rank your page for. In this article I’ll discuss how to format your page in such a way that the search engines know it is relevant to your chosen keywords. This process is known as “on-page optimization”.

Step 3: On-Page Optimization

There are two kinds of search engine optimization: on-page and off-page. On-page optimization is the stuff you do to your actual web page that will help it get ranked. Off-page optimization means stuff that isn’t on the page that affects your ranking (namely, in-bound links). Both are important. For Yahoo and MSN, on-page is more important than it is for Google. Google relies more heavily on links than the other big two, though Yahoo and MSN also weight links heavily.

In this case, I wanted to optimize the home page of the feline photos blog for the phrase “cat pictures”. This is how I normally do this:

1. Make sure the domain name contains the keywords.

2. Make the title of the page my exact keywords I am targeting, capitalized appropriately.

3. Make the very first text on the page the keywords in an H1 (header) tag.

4. Put an introductory paragraph that uses the keywords right after the H1 tag.

5. If I have a lot of text on the page, break it up with H2 tags that contain variations of my keywords.

Unfortunately, catpictures.blogspot.com was not available, so I couldn’t do #1. Since competition for “cat pictures” was somewhat light, I knew that I could get by without worrying about it. But if you are targeting more competitive keywords, make sure that your domain name (or subdomain name) contains the exact phrase you want to rank for. This especially helps for MSN.

Also, I didn’t do number five for my feline photos blog, because being a picture gallery there wasn’t that much text on the page. But I’ll give you more detail on how that works in case your page does have a lot of text.

Let’s say that I have an article on pontoon boats that I want to rank for the phrase “pontoon boats”. This is what I would do for the on-page optimization: Try and get a domain name with the words “pontoon boats” in it (www.pontoonboats.com would be perfect). If there isn’t anything available, then setup a subdomain for it (pontoonboats.mydomain.com).

Make the page title “Pontoon Boats”, put the H1 tag at the beginning of the text as “Pontoon Boats”, then break up the article with H2 subheadings like “Maintaining Pontoon Boats”, “Pontoon Boats for Fishing”, “Are Pontoon Boats Fast?”, etc. You don’t want your subheadings to be exactly your keywords like the main H1 heading and the title, but you want the subheadings to contain your keywords.

That’s really all I do with on-page optimization, and as I said before, if the competition is light I don’t always do all five of those things.

There are other things that search engine marketers focus on and spend a lot of time with (things like keyword density and image alt tag density, etc.), but since I don’t try to rank for fiercely competitive keywords I don’t usually bother with all of that. I leave the ranking of really tough keywords to the serious SEO gurus, because to me it’s just too much dang work.

To me, ranking for really competitive keywords is like owning a boat: it requires far too much time, money and effort to maintain to be worth the end result (going to the lake three times a year–sorry boat owners!).

No thanks. I’ll rank for moderately competitive keywords and only have to do a little bit of maintenance every now and again, and by multiplying that effort I’ll earn 10 times the advertising revenue that I would if I focused on one tough set of keywords.

What’s Next?

Once you’ve got your page properly optimized for your chosen keywords, it’s time to get to the “hard” part: getting in-bound links to your site. I quote “hard” because it’s not really difficult, just tedious. However, in the last part of this tutorial I will show you a tool that makes all of the work of gathering in-bound links much, much easier.”

about the author

Jonathan Leger is the creator of the first commercial AdSense Tracker script packages available, which has grown into the widely-popular product set, AdSenseGold.com

Internet marketing is long, continuous process about making your products and services visible and desirable. Once your site is launched and submitted to the search engines for indexing and ranking the task on monitoring the progress and reviewing the process begins. It is important that you constantly work towards augmenting your site more enhanced viewing by quality traffic and generating a continuous cash flow to sustain your efforts.

A Logger or a tracker placed on your site actually creates and maintains log file of visitors that have visited your sites. Listing these names acts as boost to these sites while the search engines assess these sites for rankings and indexing. This is a reward for visiting to your site, which will provide incentive to similar bloggers to revisit. This is how you also get referrals and traffic flow to your site is regular and increasing.

Monitor your site for proper and full spidering. Make sure that the full site is crawled by the search engine spiders. Make your links compatible for optimum crawling from Google and other engines. Linking is very important to be noticed. Try to mobilize free links to your site. Email similar bloggers to link up with you on same topics. Try to locate sites that are willing to exchange links free.

Once you have developed your content, your task is not over. Your content will be outdated in a day with the he amount of quality information that pours into internet every second. Have you planned your strategy to counteract that? Try to build at least one page of quality content every day. Place RSS feeds in your text and your content will be updated to your clients immediately. Your content should be contemporary and fresh. It should be simple, short and hit the bull’s eye.

Use of headers, bold text that standouts from the other text in your page as liberally as logical separators actually help people to focus their attention on which you want them to stop and read before they are routed to same other page. Logical placing of text and highlighting them actually stops the people who just scan through the sites in search of relevant content.

Whenever people from similar domain are visiting you more or you are receiving requests of linking back, do not agree blindly. Scan their sites as scrupulously as possible before putting their links to your page. Check for Google ranking of the same site before you do so.

To augment what you provide always help readers to adds you as their favorites or bookmark you, or emailing your page to their friends. Try to build in every option that makes visitors to come back and visit you whenever they are looking for similar topics. Always round out your offering for better results and guaranteed comebacks.

Retrospection of your logs is very crucial to developing your site and sustaining it to remain user friendly. Review the logs carefully and look at the combination and positioning of keywords that people coin, to get to your site. If you find a keyword to be repeated over and again, then try to build in new content around the same keyword or key word phrases. Inclusion of all semantically close words in various combinations in your site actually enhances the traffic flow to large extent.

Networking with similar bloggers is equally important. It will pay off in email exchanges, tips and link backs. The Forums and Communities of similar bloggers help to establish you in the keyword loop. Wide range of keywords, fresh content frequent updates, reciprocal linking will all draw in enough referral and guarantee sure success in SEO efforts in internet marketing.

One of the disadvantages of traditional marketing is that it often lacks credibility. Why should someone believe you when they know you’re trying to sell them something? However, there are free or inexpensive techniques for gaining business-building, positive exposure through a number of channels that may not be occurring to you or that you may not be taking full advantage of.

1. Send out a press release to the media when your business opens, expands, diversifies, invents something or innovates a process, partners with another business or organization, hires, takes a position on an non-divisive issue, or sponsors an event or a worthy cause.

2. Suggest feature articles and news story ideas to reporters and editors concerning your field or area of expertise. Offer to be interviewed or to provide quotes for an article.

3. Make yourself available as a speaker at Chamber of Commerce meetings, professional associations, community groups, and seminars. Announce your speaking engagement to the press in the form of a news release, phone call, email, or post card.

4. Write a ‘Letter to the Editor’, but avoid taking a controversial position on an issue which could cost you clients. You don’t want to alienate people. Make it a practice to read the editorial pages to see what’s being written about.

5. Teach a class at the local community college or continuing adult education program. It’s a great way to increase your credibility, visibility, and acquire new clients.

6. Become a columnist. Speaking of credibility and visibility, if you can arrange with a print or online publication to run a regular column of yours, especially with a photograph and brief bio at the end, you’ll gain a lot of valuable, free exposure.

7. Word of mouth is the best kind of free and credible advertising. Keep focusing on providing exceptional service and going above and beyond what clients expect, and word of mouth advertising and new business from referrals is virtually guaranteed.

8. Write informative articles that would be helpful to your clients or prospects and post them on your web site. Let people know about the articles in every way you can think of: talk it up, add a one sentence blurb at the end of your outgoing voice mail or answering machine message, include it in updates of your brochures, flyers, business cards, print ads, and broadcast commercials. If you’re editing and uploading the articles yourself (as opposed to having a web designer or search engine optimization expert do it) make sure you liberally sprinkle the article with a few appropriate and repeated key words that would help Internet searchers find your articles. When choosing key words and phrases, think in terms of what a customer or prospective client would enter into a search engine when looking for the topic or service you’re writing about. One website where you can get a list of keyword phrases arranged by popularity (the number of times they’ve been searched) is at Overture.com . Click on ‘Visit the Resource Center’, then go to the Keyword Selector tool.

9. Invite people to sign up for your monthly email bulletin in which you can provide clients and prospects with news, helpful tips related to your business or profession, and new product or service announcements. Four recommendations if you do this: Don’t sign anyone up without their permission, assure subscribers that their email address and other personal information will remain private (have a publicize a privacy policy), tell people they can ‘unsubscribe’ from your list whenever they want to (immediately honor those requests), and avoid making people feel like they’re being inundated with your information and offers.
While marketing tactics that cost money are a necessary part of almost any strategy, make sure to get the most mileage you can out of techniques that are either free or extremely economical. Remember, even if your marketing budget is tight, there are still plenty of things you can do to increase inquiries, boost referrals, and expand awareness of the unique aspects of your business.
